Have you ever noticed the doorknob that you grasp and turn to enter a historic home or building? Antique doorknobs are little pieces of sculpture cast in bronze, brass, copper, iron, steel, glass, or ceramic — with ornate doorplates and hardware to match.

Our membership is made up of individuals, businesses and organizations who collect antique hardware, buy, sell and trade it, and who study and appreciate the artistry of the designers, sculptors, architects and crafts people who created useful works of art for homes, offices, factories, schools, churches and public buildings across America and the rest of the world. People like you, since you found this website. We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1981 and devoted to the study and preservation of ornamental hardware. We focus on decorative designs, production methods, and period manufacturers.
A long-term vision for the ADCA since 1981 has been the establishment of a museum dedicated to the field of ornamental builder’s hardware. This website is a virtual photographic version of that museum, which seeks to catalog every antique doorknob and the related hardware which exists today.
